If you are engaged there is no doubt that you have given serious consideration to your bridal fitness.  So, if you are ready to get your body into the best shape of your life for the most important day of your life there are 3 huge mistakes that you need to avoid!

1. Trying To Sprint Down The Aisle

While I applaud your dedication to bridal fitness you need to keep your enthusiasm in check for the first few workouts.  I have seen too many brides get way too excited about changing their bodies that they start working out way too hard way too fast.

This is a recipe for disaster because more often than not you will feel way too sore and loose all motivation to stick to your workout program.

Instead of starting off with super high intensity bridal fitness workouts, you need to ease your way into things for the first week.  This will ensure that you stick with your workout program right up until your wedding week and achieve the most amazing results possible!

2. Setting An Unreachable Goal

Yes, goal setting is important.  In fact, it’s vital!  You will never achieve the bridal fitness results that you desire if you don’t set your goals.

But, your goals must be attainable!

If your goal is to “loose a lot of weight” or “get really skinny” you’ll never reach your goal.

Why?  Because what is “a lot of weight” or “really skinny”?

You need to have measurable goals that you can track to see how you are progressing.

Instead of “a lot of weight” say “X number of pounds”.

Instead of “really skinny” say “I want to wear a size __.”

These are measurable numbers that will tell you how you are progressing toward your bridal fitness goals.

3. Starving Away The Pounds

Sure, you need to watch what you eat, but too many brides fall into the trap of hardy eating at all in the belief that not eating will lead to weight loss.  The problem with this thought process is that it fails every single time.

Your body is a very smart creature.  If you stop feeding it you will actually gain weight!

Since your body doesn’t know when it’s next meal will be, it goes into “starvation mode” and slows down your metabolism so that you are not burning as many calories as you should be.  This is your bodies natural defense to maintain life.

So, instead of going on a very low calorie diet, you need to reduce your calories as much as possible without entering the starvation mode.

The second problem with a very low calorie diet is that you will end up eating something that you really shouldn’t… just because it’s there.

Have you ever been driving your car when you are extremely low on gas?  You end up having to pull into the first available gas station and pay top dollar for a few gallons of gas simply because you are in such desperate need and it’s the only place around.

The same thing happens with your body.  When your body is desperate for food if lowers your mental ability to make proper nutrition decisions and you will end up grabbing a handful of cookies or that big piece of chocolate cake… just because they are there!

So there you have it, the 3 Biggest Mistakes In Bridal Fitness along with the solutions to the problems.  Now you can set a solid foundation by staring your bridal fitness program properly, setting the right goals, and making sure that your nutrition is on track to get you into the best shape of your life for the most important day of your life!

Best work out routine to tone your body before wedding?
I’m getting married in april, im planning to wear a strapless almost mermaid style dress..I’m not overweight so loosing weight is not what i want..(i’m a size 2) but I dont exercises much..i wan to get in good shape for my wedding photos..like have toned arms and abs (for honeymmon) and a nice butt..can I do it in 2.5 months..?
what exercises work best that i can do at home because im kinda lazy to go to the gym in the winter..?

Buy yourself some free weights, they’re like $5-$10 at Target and they come in good colors! Light weights at high reps will help you tone existing muscle without bulking up. Aim for three times a week. Try bicep curls, hammer curls and tricep kickbacks with a 5 to 8 pound weight in 3 sets of 30. Add tricep extensions (10-12#), lateral raises (5-8#), and upright rows (12-15#). For your abs, do core work like basic crunches, long-leve sit-ups, rope climb, v-sit, can opener, weighed crunches, plank and side crunches. For your legs and butt do basic heel raises (with weights if you want) and squats, with or without weights. You can also do lunges. Adding a little cardio like jogging never hurts and helps get your msucles warmed up.

If all else fails, hire a trainer for a consultation and they can help you with a plan.

Good luck!

I am a 25 year old Asian female, weighing 98 lbs and about 5 ft. I used to work out a lot and was in good shape. Now I am a little out of shape and trying to get back in shape for my wedding. Whenever I workout now, I start yawning and get cold after awhile (I’m not being lazy).

No, you are not being lazy. Nor are you imagining things. When you were working out regularly, your metabolism was more efficient. Now, at 5 ft. and 98 pounds, you have very few reserves and when you expend a lot of energy, you do get cold and you get tired. My guess is you are trying to work out at the same level you were accustomed to — but your body isn’t there yet, so you’ll have to build up again, until your metabolism gets revved up.
Yawning, by the way, is a signal that your body wants more oxygen, which means you have to learn to breathe more deeply when you are working out.
Make sure you take either a bottle of water or a sport drink to the gym with you to keep yourself hydrated and to give yourself that little caloric boost that you need right now. I find most sport drinks are a little on the sweet side, so I likel to dilute them 50% with water, and throw a squirt of lemon juice in as well. Sometimes I just use a spoonful of lemon juice in a bottle of water, and that works well for me. Experiment to see what works best for you.

My boyfriend and I have been together for 4 years. We have recently been seriously discussing marriage and children and both agree that we would like to have a child sooner rather than later due to age issues. In the meantime, his sister who has been dating for 1 year got engaged – her wedding date is not until September 2008.

Would it be inappropriate for us to get married before her now or would this steal from her spotlight? I’m not very comfortable with waiting until after she was married (2009) to get then get married and pregnant later on due to the whole age factor again.

Please help? Also, my boyfriend’s sister plans on having a big traditional wedding and we plan on having a small Caribbean style wedding – so obviously family would have to save for that trip… I’ve thought of getting pregnant now, be back in shape for her wedding and then us getting married later but that probably won’t sit too well with the Catholics in my family…

You’ve got plenty of time to get married before your sister does. If it concerns you that much, talk to her about it and tell her what’s going on. The age factor can be a serious one when it comes to pregnancy and child birth. Its something you have to be very careful about. Just explain to your sister that you very much want to have children but are closing in on that crucial time and would prefer not to have them out of wedlock. You can plan destination weddings really quickly and pretty inexpensively with package deals as long as you don’t expect to have a lot of guests in attendance. Destination weddings are designed to be small intimate affairs anyhow. The destination wedding thing is a great idea in your case, because if she wants a big home town traditional wedding, you won’t be "stealing her thunder". However, she’s your sister. I doubt she’d feel that way anyhow. I’m sure she’s aware that you want kids and love your boyfriend very much. In fact, she’ll probably be very happy for you. Afterall, she’ll get to be an aunty! I wish you the best of luck in this matter and with your future family!

Oops. I’m sorry. Its his sister. My bad. Still, pretty much the same advice applies. Good luck and have fun making a baby!

I want to be in the best shape possible for my wedding in September. Thinking about taking up swimming. I know how to swim but it has been over 10 years since I jumped into a pool. I’m thinking doing laps with the freesyle stroke would get me in better shape. Does anyone have any suggestions how many laps I should start off with? I figure eventually I will want a 30-40 minute routine. How do you suggest I proceed? Thanks for the help.
How often should I try to swim, I was thinking 1-2 times a week.

Well the fly, works your abs but so does freestyle but I would probably do a little of all four strokes to get the best possible owrk out, like do a 100 of each stroke and thats fly, back, breast, free, and then do more laps until you have done whatever many laps you want to do. I would say that about 1000 yards maybe? Each lap is 50 yrds so do like 10, 100s and you should be done, Im not sure how long that would take but somewhere around there.

We are engaged and have known each other for eight years. We are not sexually active and are saving that for marriage. I need some good ideas cus flowers just don’t mean the same to him :) He is trying to get in shape for our wedding but that is kind of a touchy subject for him. I don’t want to offend him. any ideas would be great.

Buy him a vasectomy and then you could become sexually active without fear of pregnancy. If you marry without having tested the sexual waters, you might find out that what you were saving for marriage, was nothing.

Hi. I am 21, 5′4 and 152 pounds. I want to get into shape (atleast 140) and look great for my wedding on May 1st. I have a schwinn airdynne exercise bike which you move your arms and pedal. There is a hiking trail in my area that is four miles i can walk three days a week with my fiancee (as he has to drive me to because i dont have a car). I also have a pilates video, 10 pound hand weights, and stretch cords. How often should i exercise and for how long and what should i do? What should i eat? I have brocoli, cauliflower, bananna, apple, orange, lowfat yogurt, special k granola, almonds for snacks, and eggs for breakfast. I drink only water, some milk and orange juice occasionally. I will be going on adhd medicine tomorrow as well so will that cause me to gain weight? Thankyou.

No carbs, no dairy products…….fish, poultry, salads, eggs, special K, with skim milk, NO weights, aerobics (45 minutes), walking, lots of water. In one month you will have lost a lot of pounds.

Exercise in your EBZ (exercise benefit zone) for one hour a day. You know you’re in your EBZ when you can’t carry on a conversation while exercising. Walking or biking is fine, just push yourself to walk or bike rigorously enough that you can’t chat while you’re exercising. In addition, to lose weight, you want to eat fewer calories than you burn in a day. In other words, count your calories. Perhaps aim for no more than roughly 1500 a day, and eat things that will keep you full and that your body will process well. Whole grains, low fat yogurt, fruits (especially apples!), vegetables, and lean meats are all great. Almonds have tons of calories, so you might want to avoid them for the time being even though they’re very good for you. You could also mix your orange juice with water if you want to try consuming fewer "empty" liquid calories. In general, drink lots of water every day, particularly before you eat a meal. Also, eat slowly (so your brain knows when you’re actually full) and eat throughout the day (so you feel full often), but very small amounts. If you want your body to burn more calories at rest, you’ll need to do a little bit of weight training. Every other day, lift weights that you can buy at a local store with your arms and do squats if you don’t have a gym membership. Doing this will help your body burn more calories when it’s at rest. Note that you may see your weight go up on the scale immediately after you start weight training, but this is normal: muscle weighs more than fat, and by lifting weights, you’re building muscle. Ultimately, you’ll look much leaner as a result. You just have to stick with it.

Good luck and stay committed. You can do it!

Do you think doing the P90X workout is a good idea to get in shape for a wedding that is 1year and 8 months away? Or take a kick boxing class? What is a good activity to do that is fun that will help shape my arms and tone, loosing weight would be nice too!

Do you like working out at home? Or do you do better at working in a group? I personally like to go to the gym and work out… my favorite program right now is Ultimate Body Shaping or Extreme Body Shaping. Basically it is 6 days a week, 3 days cardio kick boxing and 3 days strength training with bands with an eating plan. Its fun you make friends and it’s a lifestyle that is easy to live and work with. Try it or something similar out. P90X is a great program but you need to have the discipline to really commit to it because you’re doing it at home. If you don’t show up to class for a week your bag partner in your kick boxing class will ask why.

Good job starting now and have fun!

My uncle’s a recent divorcee and he’s in real bad shape. His wedding anniversary’s coming up, and I need advice (he’s not over his wife, and he’s desperate to get back together):

Do we do what my mom thinks and take him out for dinner and try to cheer him up on that day?

or Do we leave him be and just try to make him feel better by talking but not overdoing it?

or something else completely?

Help??

Call your uncle and ask him what he would like..you sound sweet
